v1.1.0: the map and editor now feel right on mobile

Pinch zoom, bottom sheets, notch-safe spacing, plus global search and social sign-in — this release brings the map and editor to mobile for real.

On a phone, the canvas comes first

Screen space is the biggest constraint on mobile. Floating panels on the map and editor now expand on demand: the canvas gets the full view on entry, while panels, details and lists appear as bottom sheets and tuck away when done. Portrait and landscape each have their own layout, and in landscape the detail card returns to a vertical card on the right so it covers as little of the block you are viewing as possible.

  • Pinch to zoom and two-finger pan; one finger still drags and taps
  • Top navigation and bottom status bar avoid the notch and home indicator
  • In portrait, the detail panel rises from the bottom and takes at most 58% of the screen
  • Zoom, tools and framing behave the same on desktop and mobile

Finding things is faster

The new global search box looks across every pixel block. When the side panel is closed it floats over the canvas; open bookmarks or recent items and it docks smoothly into the panel — one search box, two contexts. Signed out, it only returns public content; signed in, it also includes your own private blocks.

Pixel block details are leaner too: the first screen loads only the summary, and the full body is fetched when you open the detail card. The map API now uses weak ETag caching, so repeat visits cost almost no bandwidth.

Also in this release

Login and registration now share a single form, with quick sign-in through third-party accounts. Pixel blocks support arrow-key roaming: it looks within 31° straight ahead first and only widens to 50° when nothing matches, so large blocks no longer pull the direction off course. The map ruler is display-only again and no longer reacts to hover.
